The Book Thief. It deserves every positive review it has ever had.
The Book Thief is a very slow read, as in it took me a solid eight months to read it, but I enjoyed every page. The time is World War II. The place is Germany. The narrator is Death and the main character is a girl. Liesel Meminger is nine years old at the beginning of The Book Thief and the story follows her through the war, as she plays soccer in the street with her friends, as her family hides a Jewish man in the basement, as she steals books from the mayor's house, as her papa is drafted and her home bombed. The Book Thief is a perfect plot written perfectly and there are a lot of tear stains in certain sections of my copy.
I completely and whole-heartedly recommend this book.
